Who is it for?
Anyone completing a funding bid or contract application.

What is about?
This course will address a range of budgeting issues, how they relate to fund raising and making effective applications / contract tenders a large part of the fund raising assessment process is analysing how accurate your budgets are.

The workshop's contents will cover why you should prepare a budget in the first place, how detailed should it be, the types of fund that you can apply for and the different types of budget (from basic income and expenditure projections through to costing for contracts), cash flow projections which should be prepared.

The day will also address terminology to clarify the financial 'dictionary' enabling you to understand different sorts of costs (direct/indirect and fixed/variable) and it will also help you design a Reserves Policy.

A practical exercise will walk you through the learning points and put them into context illustrating the contents and addressing the various issues raised to enable you to take them back to the workplace effectively.


What will I learn?
After completing the session you will be able to:
- Describe financial information required by a voluntary organisation to demonstrate effective financial management
- Plan a project considering resources & financial requirements Put budgeting within a fund raising context for the effective drafting of proposals
- Prepare a budget for a grant application / contract tender using different techniques
- Gain an understanding of the importance of financial information for the efficiency of their organisation and any fund raising strategy within which they might operate
- Be innovative in planning financial resources and 'selling' your project by illustrating 'added value' which is becoming an increasing feature in grant processes
